Facebook Owner Mark Zuckerberg & His Wife Donate $25 Million to CDC to help Fight Ebola

Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla, are donating $25 million to the Centers for Disease Control Foundation to help in the fight against Ebola. He made the announcement today via his facebook page:
We need to get Ebola under control in the near term so that it doesn’t spread further and become a long term global health crisis that we end up fighting for decades at large scale, like HIV or polio.
We believe our grant is the quickest way to empower the CDC and the experts in this field to prevent this outcome.
Grants like this directly help the frontline responders in their heroic work. These people are on the ground setting up care centers, training local staff, identifying Ebola cases and much more.
We are hopeful this will help save lives and get this outbreak under control.

John Schultz Takes Advantage Of Ebola Tragedy? – Entrepreneur Wants Sell Ebola.com Domain For $150,000

The man, Jon Schultz, specializes in buying disease domains and selling them for large amounts of money.
In addition to the Ebola.com domain, Daily Mail reports that Schultz also owns:H1N1.com, birdflu.com, terror.com, PotassiumIodide.com, fukushima.com, and others.
He bought the Ebola domain 4 years ago for $13,500 and has been waiting for the right opportunity to sell it, and according to him, that time is now – in the midst of the current Ebola epidemic.
“Ebola.com would be a great domain for a pharmaceutical company working on a vaccine or cure, a company selling pandemic or disaster-preparedness supplies, or a medical company wishing to provide information and advertise services” Schultz said.
Some have accused him of taking advantage of a tragedy, but he has denied the allegations, saying that doctors do the same.
“You could say the same thing about doctors.  They can become very well-off treating very sick patients.
Besides we have sacrificed a couple of thousands in parking page income to put up links about Ebola on the site. And people can also donate to Doctors Without Borders at the site,” he said.

Remembering The Chibok Girls – By Femi Fani Kayode

Article written by former Femi Fani-Kayode
In the early hours of the morning of April 14th 2014 276 girls were abducted from their school as they slept. They all came from a predominantly Christian town in northern Nigeria called Chibok.
They were all between the ages of 15 and 18. They were eager to get a good education and to make something of their lives. 90 per cent of them were Christians who believed passionately that their God would always protect them and make a way for them in the predominantly Muslim Borno state where they resided in north-eastern Nigeria.
They left home on the morning of April 13th confidently, eagerly and happily and went to school to do an exam. The Federal Government of Nigeria, headed by a Christian President by the name of Mr. Goodluck Jonathan, had earlier reminded the local authorities that the school had been closed for a considerable period of time for security reasons and warned that it should not be re-opened for the exams to take place at Chibok because of the activities of the deadly islamist terrorist sect known as Boko Haram in that area. However the Muslim Governor of Borno state, Mr. Kashim Shettima, ignored these warnings and assured the Federal Government that he would provide the necessary security. He also assured the parents of the safety of the young girls.
He said that he would open the school specifically for the purpose of the exams and he encouraged the girls to not only come and do those exams but also to spend one night at the school after finishing them. Convinced by his assurances and moved by his conviction and confidence, the parents of the girls allowed their wards to proceed to the school for the exam and they encouraged them to spend the night there. The curious twist to the tale is the fact that a few of the girls that went to take that exam were the children of those that taught at the school yet after the exams were concluded not one of them stayed in the school or opted to spend the night.
It was almost as if they had a premonition of what was going to happen or, perhaps, someone on the inside had warned them about the horrors that lay ahead. The Governor of the state did not honor his word to provide security at the school. As a matter of fact as the girls prepared to sleep that night not one adult was in the school premises to watch over them apart from an old man who was the school gatekeeper and who slept at the gate. No teacher, supervisor or school official stayed with them that night and neither did the school matron, headmaster or principal.
Not one person in authority was with them let alone an armed man or woman to protect them from the obvious dangers. They were on their own. Worse still there was no electricity that night and no lights were on because there was no power flowing from the national grid and neither was the school generator working. The girls were not only on their own but they were also in total and complete darkness. They said their prayers, sang a few hymns, asked for God’s protection and went to bed. Then, at approximately 3.00 a.m. in the morning, Boko Haram stormed the premises. The girls were subjected to the most unspeakable forms of abuse: they were defiled, brutalised, traumatised and finally they were abducted.
The terrorists not only took the girls but they also ransacked the school, stole all the food in the premises, burnt a number of school buildings and made away with whatever they could lay their hands on. They bundled the 276 young girls into their lorries and sped in the dead of the night into the deadly clutches and dark groves of their hideout- the notorious Sambisa Forest.  A few days later the leader of Boko Haram, Mr. Ibrahim Shekau, released a video of himself telling the world about his intention to convert the girls to Islam, sell them into slavery ”in markets” and marry them off in foreign lands.
He said that Islam permitted him to do so. He also said that he would never release them. He claimed that they had become slaves of Boko Haram and that they would remain slaves forever. Two weeks later a video was released of some girls covered in Muslim shawls and garb reciting the Koran. It was clear that Mr. Shekau had kept his word. These girls had been forcefully converted to Islam and they were now slaves.
Thankfully 55 of them managed to escape whilst they were being abducted from the school on their way to Sambisa forest. They did so by jumping off the moving lorries that their captors had herded them into. Two more escaped a few days after arriving in Sambisa forest. They have since recounted some of the horrors that they were subjected to and that they faced whilst in captivity.
This includes multiple r*pes on a daily basis from several men, group s*x, beatings, killings, torture, enslavement, maimings and forced renunciations of their christian faith and conversion to Islam. Clearly the 219 girls that are still in captivity are literally in hell. Stories are told of how some of them have been sold off ”in marriage” to wealthy Arabs in north Africa and the Middle East and how others have become s*x slaves in bordering African nations like Chad, the Sudan and Niger Republic. Up till today the Nigerian Federal Government has no idea where they actually are and have not been able to rescue any of them.
A world-wide ”Bring Back Our Girls” campaign has been launched and this has created more awareness about their horrendous plight and kept hope alive for their safe return. However when a former President of Nigeria, Mr. Olusegun Obasanjo, said that the world would soon have to come to terms with the fact that ”we may never see those girls again” and that ”by now some of them will be dead whilst others will be pregnant” it did not give much cause for hope or cheer. Perhaps the utter despair that Mr. Obasanjo’s words reflected added to the anxiety, trauma and heartache that resulted in the sudden deaths of no less than 7 of the parents of the abducted girls.
The truth is that the girls are not just the victims of the most vicious Islamist terrorist organisation on the African continent today, an organisation whose sheer cruelty and barbarity is at par with that of ISIL, but they are also the victims of an uncaring and insensitive ruling political elite in Nigeria who would prefer that the whole matter is just swept under the carpet and forgotten simply because they do not have the capability, the guts or the political will to take on Boko Haram in any meaningful way and rescue the girls.
The reality, as unpleasant as it may sound, is as follows. When the question is asked ”where are our girls?”, the answer is that they are somewhere in hell, hoping and praying that the Nigerian authorities and the international community never forgets them and manages to muster the resolve, know-how and courage to rescue them. We owe them that much: after all they are our children.
Yet all hope is not lost. On 25th September 2014 one of the girls was released by Boko Haram. Sadly she was not only pregnant but she had also lost her mind as a consequence of the trauma that she had suffered from her ordeal. The good news is that she is at least alive and safely back home with her family where she belongs. This gives us hope for the others. May God bring home our girls and may we never forget them.

Gay people have gifts and qualities to offer the church – Vatican

The Vatican has asked for gay men and women to be given a chance in the catholic faith as they have gifts and qualities to offer the church. This call was made in a document released yesterday October 13th by the Vatican after a week-long Synod (Council of a church, usually convened to decide an issue of doctrine,) attended by about 200 bishops, who deliberated and came up with the resolution contained in a document which is known by its latino name “relatio”,
“Homosexuals have gifts and qualities to offer the Christian community: are we capable of welcoming these people, guaranteeing to them a further space in our communities? Often they wish to encounter a Church that offers them a welcoming home,” the document read..
The document also asked the Church to challenge itself to find ‘a fraternal space’ for homosexuals without compromising Catholic doctrine on family and matrimony.

Police Officers kissing in Public; loose their jobs

Two Tanzanian police officers, whose kiss was widely shared on social media, have prompted a discussion about just that – and both have also lost their jobs.
A relationship with a colleague can throw up any number of complications, but the two young police officers in the picture below may not have thought it would end their careers. The photograph – taken in Kagera, north west Tanzania – shows the pair kissing whilst dressed in their work uniforms, and was considered grounds for dismissal. Residents of the country have taken to social media to voice their dismay.
The image was uploaded to the internet by a third officer, who also took the photo, and drawn to the attention of the authorities at the Kagera police force. Henry Mwaibambe, the regional police commander, spoke to the BBC about the steps taken, and defends his department’s decision. “We followed all disciplinary procedures to make sure that they were given a chance to defend themselves,” he says. “The officer looking at the case was convinced there was compelling evidence against them, and that they had breached police code of conduct. That’s why they lost their jobs.”

The ambush took place on a busy street  in the city of Puyang in eastern China’s Henan Province, and even the police never came.  Lin Yao Liwas kicked in the groin and breasts as she writhed screaming in agony on the pavement.
Onlookers said, they didn’t intervene because was  it was an ‘argument of the heart‘ – she didn’t deserve help because had slept with another woman’s husband.

Russell Brand is opening up about his marriage to Katy Perry. In an interview with Matt Lauer on the Today show on Monday, Oct. 13, the comedian, who was promoting his new book Revolution, said he "loved" being married to the "Roar" songstress.
"I really enjoyed it," Brand said when asked about his 14-month marriage to the American Music Award nominee. "Katy Perry is an amazing person," he gushed.
"What happened was after you get married, like anyone who's been married or come out of a relationship, you obviously have a lot of expectations," Brand added of his state following their 2010 nuptials. Taylor Swift Talks "Out of the Woods" It's About "Fragility" of Some Relationship

Watch video HERE
As anticipation builds for Taylor Swift’s fifth studio album, 1989, which is set to come out on Oct. 27, the savvy singer is preparing to release a new song, “Out of the Woods.”
The tune, which she has clearly noted is not her next official single, hits iTunes on Tuesday, Oct. 14. Swift, 24, shared a sneak peek of the track on Good Morning America on Monday, Oct. 13, after also posting an interview in which she explains its backstory.
“This song is about the fragility and breakable nature of some relationships,” she said of “Out of the Woods.” “This was a relationship where I was kind of living day-to-day wondering where it was going, if it was going to go anywhere, if it was going to end the next day.”
Though Swift didn’t note exactly which one of her famous exes the song was about, many are pointing to One Direction’s Harry Styles. In the lyrics, she references what appears to be a crash, singing, “Remember when you hit the brakes too soon/twenty stitches in a hospital room.” And in her recent cover story with Rolling Stone, she also noted that she was once in a snowmobile accident with Styles, which incited the idea of the song being about the British singer.
She didn’t bash the unnamed relationship in her interview, adding, “You kind of never feel like you’re standing on solid ground. That kind of a feeling brings on excitement, but also extreme anxiety.”

The "Fancy" singer added: "My bodyguard stopped the fire truck that saved your friends life in canada when he almost burnt down the hotel. and every time I've ever spoken to you you've always been nice as hell, I'm disappointed you'd be such an ass for no reason."

List of world richest pastors: Bishop Oyedepo Explains Why He Won’t Pay Tax

Some days back, a list of richest pastors in the world surfaced online and Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of the Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel topped the list with an estimated net worth of $150 million.

Speaking with Reuters, Oyedepo who defended the income generated from tithes and offerings in his mega church said it is used to build schools and serve the needs of the poor.
According to the man of God, the wealth the church gathers is invested in expanding it, and if he did not use a private jet, he would be unable to oversee its many foreign operations and still return to Ota every week in time for Sunday’s worship.

Asked about Forbes’ estimate of his fortune, Bishop Oyedepo said that he doesn’t know how Forbes arrived at their figure.

“For me, to have fortune means someone who has what he needs at any point in time. I don’t see myself as having $150 million stacked up somewhere. Whatever way they found their figures, I am only able to say I am blessed by the Lord,” he said.

On whether churches should pay tax considering how much they make, the Bishop replied: “There is no single government input on this premises. We supply our water, we make our roads, then you … say: ‘Let’s tax them’. For what?”

Oyedepo claimed his Corporate Affairs department has employed more than 18,000 people in Nigeria alone.

The headquarters of Oyedepo’s church, Canaan land is a 10,500-acre (4250-hectare) campus located in Ota. It comprises a university, two halls of accommodation, restaurants and a church seating 50,000 people.

Alameiseigha’s Son Killed In Dubai

Oyoms Alamieyesigha, a son of ex- Bayelsa State Governor, Diepriye Alameiseigha, is dead.

Oyoms, said to be the second to the last son of Alamieyeseigha, fondly called the ‘Governor-General Niger Delta,’ while he was a governor, was killed on Saturday in the Middle East country.

Sources familiar with the development alleged on Monday that the deceased’s death was a case of assassination.

Two different versions have been given concerning where the former governor’s son was killed. The first version, our correspondent learnt, was that Oyoms was found dead by the staircase of his father’s house in Dubai. However, the second version alleged that the deceased’s body was found in his hotel room in Dubai, giving impression that he might have been assassinated.

It could not be established whether Oyom’s father, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, had traveled to Dubai to take possession of his son’s body.

Indication that he might not have traveled emerged when he responded to a text message sent to his mobile phone on Monday at 12noon.

Though it was later learnt about 2pm that he was headed for Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, in company with one of his older sons, to probably board a flight to Dubai.

In his response to the enquiry on the incident, Alamieyeseigha simply said, “he was killed in Dubai.”
However, as of the time of filing this report, the circumstances leading to Oyom’s death remained sketchy.

GOD TV Founder Gets Led Astray by the Devil – Abandons Wife, Elopes with Divorced Woman

A Jerusalem-based Christian evangelical TV network that reaches hundreds of millions of homes, GOD TV  is in very public chaos after the founder’s wife revealed her husband had run off with another woman under the influence of “the devil”.In a broadcast on the international television station  last week, a tearful Wendy Alec told viewers that her husband Rory now lives on a farm in South Africa with a divorced jazz musician.

Problems started in March this year for the couple when her husband returned from a visit to South Africa, Wendy said in the broadcast.

‘My whole world started turning upside down and the next morning he just went. It started to be extremely traumatic for me because suddenly my husband just started to change in a pattern and a way I had never seen him act before. The devil got in very, very easily.’

Mrs Alec said she and the board of GOD TV asked Rory to go for counseling and claimed she discovered he had been having an affair in August. She added that the woman Mr Alec was having an affair with heard a voice from God telling her that he was her Mr. Right and her husband. Mrs Alec continued:

‘Rory is on this lady’s father’s farm in South Africa. He doesn’t want to be involved in the ministry anymore and as far as he’s concerned, the marriage is finished. He doesn’t want restoration, he doesn’t want counselling, he doesn’t want anything to do with it. He wants a new life. It is traumatic because it’s like your life is over, all our memories.’
‘After 20 years of service, I have had a moral failure this year. For this reason, I am stepping down. Please forgive me for the disappointment I’ve caused, but I know your eyes are on Jesus who is the author and finisher of your faith and not on me, an imperfect man. It is with a heavy heart that I confirm my season with GOD TV is over for now.’

The Alecs, South Africans got married 27 years ago and launched God TV in London in 1995. Mrs Alec had become a devout Christian after seeing the face of Jesus in a mirror in the lavatory of a nightclub where she was singing. She and now estranged hubby decided to set up a Christian TV channel in Europe after hearing a prophecy that they would do so.

They launched God TV with £140,000 in savings and it quickly became popular with US evangelists who paid to appear and gain access to European audiences

Shocking. Mum who permitted her BF to kill her child freed after telling her story

In October 2012, 23yr old Victoria Phanhtarath and her then boyfriend Freddy Mendez were arrested over the beating to death of Victoria’s 3 year old daughter, Alexis Hawkins. Freddy was sentenced to life in prison for the murder, Victoria was sentenced to 35 years for failing to protect her child from an abusive man. Describing how Freddy beat Alexis to death, Victoria said;
“Freddy is still spanking Alexis and I go get my son. And I come back and he’s sitting there. And he pushed her and he kicked her and threw her across the room, all the way to the window. He picked her up by the throat and slammed her on the floor. He’s kicking her and hitting her on the chest. And he said get this little b**ch. Go take care of her.”

When asked what she did to stop the vicious attack, Victoria said “I told him to calm down and go outside”. Police was called to the home where little Alexis was found unresponsive. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died. Two years after Victoria was convicted for the murder, a judge set her free after she told her own story…
During the case, the Oklahoma City mum entered a plea deal where she pleaded guilty to ‘murder by permitting child abuse and also testified against Freddy’ But two years later, prosecutors agreed for the case to go to court again. And when Victoria told a judge how she herself had suffered abuse from Freddy and refused to tell anyone because she was embarrassed
Victoria describes her own abuse in the hands of Freddie prior to Alexis death…
“He started grabbing me and starts punching me in my face. He shoves me to the pool. I try to get out, he shoves me back into the pool. He starts hitting me and dragging me around. I’m screaming and crying, he tells me to shut up.”
She said it wasn’t the first time but she was too embarrassed to tell anyone that she was in an abusive relationship.
After Victoria told her story…everything changed. The judge cried. The jury cried. And then the judge did something no one expected. He modified her sentence, struck off the 35 years and set her free. Victoria had only been in prison for two years.

Pics: UNILAG students use pure water to put out fire at their hostel

The popular Madam Tinubu Hall, MTH, was gutted by fire in the early hours of today after a student used a hot plate to cook and put it under her bed without totally putting out the heat. The fire started from the room and spread to other rooms but thankfully no student was killed. A few of them were however injured when they tried to jump from their windows to escape the fire.
The saddest part of it all was that students had to resort to using pure water to put the fire because there was no water in the hostel. Quite sad! See more photos…

We are Sorry Nigerians, Says Keshi, Enyeama

Coach Stephen Keshi and captain Vincent Enyeama have apologised to Nigerians for the stunning 1-0 defeat by Sudan in Khartoum on Saturday.
The Super Eagles returned to the country on Sunday morning to be met by an unfriendly reception from fans at the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport following their disappointing performance in Khartoum less than 24 hours ago.

The 52-year-old tactician, while addressing a handful of sports journalists, rued a couple of wasted chances early into the crucial 2015 Afcon qualifying match and says the team will bounce right back on Wednesday when the host the Sudanese in a return leg fixture.
“I must ask you to help me apologise to Nigerians for this loss because they have so much belief in this team and here we are disappointing them,” Keshi said.
“The day was simply not ours, because we had a couple of early chances that we would have used to bury the game but the ball simply refused to enter into the net.
“Once again on behalf of the team I want to apologise to Nigerians and promise them we will make an immediate amend come Wednesday.
“This is the first time I am doing this in my entire career as a player and coach.”
Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama added: “We didn’t go out there to lose to Sudan but it has happened and that is now history and I apologise on behalf of my teammates for that but we must quickly forgive and forget because we have a game on Wednesday and if we win that and our last two games, we will still be in Morocco.
“Let Nigerians forgive us and also pray for us to win our remaining games.”

Texas Nurse Tests Positive for Ebola

The deadly Ebola virus has been contracted by someone inside the United States for the first time.
A nurse who had worn protective gear during her “extensive contact” at a Dallas hospital with an Ebola patient who died tested positive during a preliminary blood test, officials said Sunday.

The woman had on a gown, gloves, mask and a shield during her multiple visits with Thomas Eric Duncan, but there was a breach in protocol, health officials said.
The patient is a nurse at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, an official who is familiar with the case told CNN.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta conducted testing on the blood sample, and confirmed the results Sunday, marking the first known transmission of Ebola in the United States and the second diagnosis in the country.
She was involved in Duncan’s care after he was placed in isolation — his second trip to the hospital after coming to the United States from Liberia — said Dr. Tom Frieden, the director of the CDC.
The nurse is in stable condition, Texas Health Resources chief clinical officer Dan Varga said. Duncan, the first person to be diagnosed with Ebola in the United States, died Wednesday.
The nurse had “extensive contact” on “multiple occasions” with Duncan, Frieden said.
“At some point, there was a breach in protocol, and that breach in protocol resulted in this infection,” he said at a news conference Sunday. “The (Ebola treatment) protocols work. … But we know that even a single lapse or breach can result in infection.”
Also, Varga said that someone who is a “close contact” of the nurse has been “proactively” placed in isolation.
The hazardous materials unit of the Dallas Fire Department has cleaned up and decontaminated the public areas of the health worker’s apartment complex, Mayor Mike Rawlings said. Police are keeping people out of the area and are talking to residents nearby.
“We have knocked on every door on that block,” the mayor said.
Hazardous materials units have also cleaned out the nurse’s car and will work on her apartment Sunday.
“This development is understandably disturbing news for the patient, the patient’s family and colleagues and the greater Dallas community,” the CDC said in a statement, announcing the nurse’s test results.
It sought to play down a wider risk.
“The CDC and the Texas Department of State Health Services remain confident that wider spread in the community can be prevented with proper public health measures, including ongoing contact tracing, health monitoring among those known to have been in contact with the index patient, and immediate isolations if symptoms develop,” the CDC said.
Case was anticipated
“We knew a second case could be a reality, and we’ve been preparing for this possibility,” Dr. David Lakey, commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, said in a statement Sunday morning.
“We are broadening our team in Dallas and working with extreme diligence to prevent further spread.”
The nurse reported a low-grade fever Friday night and was isolated, the health department said. The preliminary test result came in late Saturday.
President Barack Obama received two briefings Sunday on the second Dallas Ebola case, including one from Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell. According to a White House statement, the President wants federal authorities to immediately take further measures to ensure health care professionals are able to follow protocols for treating Ebola patients.
‘A sign the system is working’
The news that a health care worker might have the disease is not completely unexpected, an infectious disease specialist told CNN’s “New Day.”
“I think we’ve always expected that there may be another individual who will come down with the Ebola from the transmission of this one particular person, and we always felt that it was going to likely be one of his close contacts or one of the health care workers, because that’s the way this virus works,” Dr. Frank Esper said.
Esper said Texas officials have been keeping a close eye on people who had contact with Duncan.
“I will tell you that the fact that we identified this individual so quickly is actually to me a sign that the system is working,” he added.
Globally, the disease has wrought catastrophic consequences.
The World Health Organization estimates more than 8,300 people have contracted Ebola during this year’s outbreak. Of those, more than 4,000 have died.
Ebola not very contagious
Ebola is actually difficult to catch. People are at risk if they come into very close contact with the blood, saliva, sweat, feces, semen, vomit or soiled clothing of an Ebola patient, or if they travel to affected areas in West Africa and come into contact with someone who has Ebola.
Those stricken with Ebola suffer ghastly symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, fever and unexplained bleeding.
Three countries — Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia — have been hardest hit. And many of those who care for the ill have also come down with the disease.
The World Health Organization estimates at least 416 health care workers have contracted Ebola, and at least 233 have died.
In Liberia, health care workers are threatening to strike if their work conditions don’t improve.
The first infection outside of Africa happened in a nurse’s aide in Spain, Teresa Romero Ramos. She became sick after she helped treat an Ebola-stricken Spanish missionary.
Her case has prompted questions from fellow medical professionals about whether they are properly equipped to safely treat Ebola patients.
Another search begins
For weeks, health officials have been monitoring those who had contact with Duncan before he was hospitalized and isolated.
Duncan left Liberia on September 19 and arrived in Dallas on September 20. Four days later, he began feeling ill; the following night, he went to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital.
But despite telling a hospital worker that he had arrived from Liberia, Duncan was sent home with antibiotics. He returned a few days later and tested positive for Ebola.
And now, the search begins for all the contacts whom the nurse came in contact with.
“We need a whole new crew of people to do contact tracing,” said Elizabeth Cohen, CNN senior medical correspondent.
Because Ebola’s incubation period can last up to 21 days, the health nurse’s contacts will have to be monitored for three weeks.
The Texas health department said officials have interviewed the patient and are identifying any contacts or potential exposures.
“This is not an easy thing,” Cohen said. “Keeping track of large numbers of people, taking their temperature twice a day, making sure they don’t … leave town, all of that is a lot of work".
