MEEK MILL Will MOST LIKELY TO REMAIN IN PRISON TILL SEPTEMBER

We hope Meek Mill hasn’t gotten his hopes all the way up just yet.

We learned of Meek Mill being sentenced to 3 to 6 months in jail earlier in July due to a parole violation. MMG’s Rick Ross and even Karen Civil stepped up to the plate trying to clear the air about the sentencing revealing that Meek would only be doing about 3 to 4 weeks. However, it seems both parties were wrong and possibly didn’t know just how serious the situation was.

Meek’s lawyers filed a petition Thursday asking for an emergency hearing within three days, in hopes of freeing the 27-year-old rapper however, Common Pleas Judge Genece Brinkley – who originally sentenced Meek – said her court schedule would not allow her to hold a hearing until September.  According to defense attorney Christopher Warren, Brinkly also rejected a request to allow another judge to hear the case.

“All I’m asking for is a hearing to learn why [his jailing] is constitutional and they won’t even give me that,” said a frustrated Warren said yesterday.
Warren and fellow attorney Dennis Cogan, who is also representing Meek , are taking the next legal step come Monday morning. The attorneys will file for a writ of mandamus, which means a higher court would force Brinkley to hold an emergency hearing at an earlier date. Warren admits that this was the last thing he wanted to do but says they have no choice. We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.

2015: YOU’RE IN ‘ONE-CHANCE’ BUS, PDP REPLIES ATIKU

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), National Working Committee (NWC), has declared that former vice-president Atiku Abubakar was keeping wrong company ahead of 2015 general elections.
Atiku had on Sunday accused the PDP and the Presidency of creating division and animosity in the country by linking chieftains of All Progressives Congress (APC), with terrorism. The former vice-president noted that such accusations by the ruling party was meant to divert attention from its failure to deliver democracy dividends to Nigerians.
But the national leadership of the PDP yesterday insisted that the APC has been using religion to foster narrow political ambition.
A statement  by its national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh, submitted that while it would not want to join issues with the former vice-president, it would not be cowed, nor relent  in its insistence “that the APC is a party of selfish, religious and ethnic bigots pursuing a Janjaweed ideology.
“The APC and its leaders are embittered that the PDP machinery has been able to effectively expose and profile them as they truly are. They are in pains that Nigerians now know that the APC has no agenda, rather a platform for selfish individuals pursuing personal and parochial agenda using blackmail, propaganda and promotion of violence as means to achieve political control.
“The APC leaders are bitter because they have been confronted with a PDP that is not afraid to label them in their true colour despite personal threats, media attacks and character assassination to cow and deter us.
“On the issue of APC having an Islamic agenda, it is known to all and sundry that the PDP never labeled it as such. We merely, in our statement of January 7, 2014, drew the attention of Nigerians to the revelation by an Islamic cleric, Ambassador Yusuf Garba and the Religious Equity Promotion Council (REPC), that the APC was seeking to impose on Nigeria, an agenda akin to that of the  Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.
“In any case, we insist that it is completely out of place for any body to associate APC with Islam which is a religion of peace and does not preach violence, greed, destruction and lust for power which are the trademarks of the APC.
“On the other hand, the PDP has committed Muslims who are worshipping Allah in truth more than the APC. Many of the founding fathers and critical stakeholders of the PDP are Muslims. The leader of the administration of the PDP is a committed and dedicated Muslim. We have responsible and committed Muslims as ministers, state governors, legislators and among our leaders at the national, state, local government and ward levels across the country.
“In this regard, no party can be said to have better respect for Islam than the PDP. Our quarrel with the APC is its use of religion and ethnicity to canvass for votes and membership, a practice which is clearly inimical to the progress and development of our democracy.
“In spite of any personal interest, the PDP as a platform remains better than the APC. Indeed, the APC is not an alternative. It has no vision and is completely lacking in ideology. It is unfortunate that our former members have chosen to board the wrong vehicle, indeed, ‘a one-chance bus’.

FLORIDA FATHER BEATS HIS 11-YEAR-OLD SON’S ABUSER UNCONCIOUS

A father catches an 18-year-old in the act of sexually abusing his 11-year-old son.

You can almost imagine what a Daytona, Florida father was feeling when he returned home on Friday at 1 a.m.  to catch a man he trusted sexually abusing his son. He reacted instantly and beat 18-year-old Raymond Frolander unconscious before calling the police. When Daytona police arrived, Frolander was lying motionless on the living room floor. He had several knots on his head and face and was bleeding from his mouth. The father learned that his son was being sexually abused by Frolander for three years. Frolander is charged with sexual battery on a child under 12 and is being held without bail.According to the arrest affidavit, Frolander admitted to the abuse. The father has not been charged.

“Dad was acting like a dad. I don’t see anything we should charge the dad with,” Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said. “You have an 18-year-old who has clearly picked his target, groomed his target and had sex with the victim multiple times.”

Yesterday, news broke via TMZ that during a press conference Floyd Mayweather was holding to promote his upcoming September rematch with Marcos Maidana, he said something pretty vulgar about T.I.’s wife, Tiny, when asked about Tip.

“I was f*****g his b***h”, was Floyd’s response to a reporter yelling out, “What about T.I.?”

It’s probably the most over-the-line verbal tactic Floyd has used since things first got tense between he and T.I. over Memorial Day Weekend, but when TMZ caught up with T.I. and asked him about it, the “No Mediocre” rapper responded in probably the best way possible, given the circumstances.

FORMER DESTINY’S CHILD MEMBER ARRESTED

Former Destiny’s Child member Farrah Franklin ran into some serious trouble this past Sunday night. According to officials and the Associated Press, Franklin was arrested for disorderly conduct when she was found on her neighbor’s property. Police claimed Franklin said she “did not have anywhere to go,” and  ”was planning on sleeping in the woods.”

The events allegedly transpired after Franklin was drinking with NFL friends, Daquan Bowers and Ricky Sapp. After Franklin reportedly carried on violently, yelling and slamming car doors, the police were called, and arrived on the scene to find Franklin in a drunk condition on her neighbor’s front yard. She was released on $280 bond from a South Carolina jail.

AIR FORCE CHOPPER CRASHES IN BORNO

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) yesterday announced the crash of a Nigerian Air Force helicopter in the south of Bama, Borno State.
The helicopter,  Mi-35, was said to be on a training mission in the area when it crashed due to technical fault.
The DHQ, in a statement, while noting that “it is established that the crash is not as a result of any enemy action,” however, said it had commenced investigation to unravel the cause of the incident, which it promised to make public.
The statement, signed by the Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade read : “A Nigerian Air Force Mi-35 helicopter on a training mission this afternoon, crashed due to technical fault at a location in the south of Bama.  Investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances that led to the accident.
“Meanwhile, it is established that the crash is not as a result of any enemy action.   Further details on the crash will be made known as soon as the investigation is concluded.

According to a statement on Defence HQ website, one of the pilots of the crashed Nigerian Air Force Mi-35 Helicopter on a training mission reported earlier today, has been recovered alive while the second one as well as the technician on board the 3-member crew flight died in the crash. They said Rescue is still ongoing…

UNN LECTURER COMMITS SUICIDE

A lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Nigeria, Enugu campus, Dr Bede Opata last weekend committed suicide over yet to be ascertained reasons, Thisday reports.

The deceased lecturer hailed from Nsukka area of Enugu state and showed no sign of depression prior to the unimaginable act. In fact, he had registered to attend Telecommunications Policy & Regulation Institute Seminar slated for Washington DC, USA between December 4-5, 2014.

According to sources at the university, the deceased had taken his life in his apartment within the town on Saturday night but his body was discovered on Sunday.

The 38-year old Opata who held a Doctorate Degree in Law was said to have been employed as a lecturer in the university in 2011.

Public Relations Officer of Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu could not be reached to confirm the incident as at the time of filing this report.

MADE-IN-NIGERIA CARS: INNOSON UNVEILS AUGUST 8, PROMISES PRICE SLASH

The first made-in-Nigeria mass produced cars will make a debut on August 8, Chief Innocent Chukwuma, chairman of Innoson Group, manufacturers of Innoson vehicles, has said.
Chukwuma, who disclosed this yesterday at the Faculty of Law, University of Nigeria, Enugu campus during the opening ceremony of Empower Nigeria Roadshow for the South-East zone, said he would crash the prices of new cars in the country with his commencement of mass produced cars.
The Innoson chairman said the prices of the new cars would range from N1.5 million to N3 million, assuring that the Innoson new cars would compete favourably with others in the market.
Chukwuma recalled when he started business in 1981 with meagre resources, but grew his business from loans from the Bank of Industry (BoI), advising up- and-coming entrepreneurs to approach BoI for assistance so long as they would pay back the loan.
Also speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, commended the initiators of Empower Nigeria, saying the flag-off of the South-East campaign in Enugu was a major effort by the private sector-led group to show that government alone could not deal with the problem of youth unemployment.

“I use this opportunity to congratulate the organisers of Empower Nigeria Initiative, Prince Nicholas Okoye and his Anabel Group for putting this event together. This is a clear demonstration of the positive role of the private sector in our national development,” he said.

NIGERIAN TEEN KILLS BROTHER, BRUTALIZES MOTHER IN NEW YORK- GETS ARRESTED

The father came home and found his younger son dead and his wife badly injured at the family Dix Hills home on Long Island, New York, USA.

Nigerian 18-year-old teenager Charles Okonkwo Jr. was detained by the police on suspicion of a murder and assault on his mother. He was stopped by the police officers while trying to escape the crime scene in his parents’ car. The boy who has some psychiatric problems allegedly attacked his younger brother and mother to death while his father, Charles Okonkwo Sr. was at a hospital stay.

The lifeless body of a younger son, Bradley Okonkwo, was found in his room by his father, while the woman was laying unconscious in a pool of blood next to her car in the garage. Chinwe Okonkwo was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where doctors are fighting for her life, as she remains in critical condition. Mrs Okonkwo who now in a coma, suffered facial fractures and had swelling on her brain. Bradley’s cause of death is yet to be determined.

A family friend said: “This is very tragic. No one saw it coming. This was the perfect family you wouldn’t expect it to happen to.”

The suspect appeared in court on Sunday, July 20, 2014, he confessed to the crime, however, authorities offered no motive for the alleged attack and took into account Charles’ history of mental illness. Members of Long Island’s Nigerian immigrant community stopped by the Okonkwo house on Sunday to pay their respects to the family.

Councilors in Florida’s City Council of Ocala have passed a new Draconian law which comes with a $500 fine or six month jail sentence banning the wearing of trousers that sag so low that they show underwear.

Passed to combat the growing trend among young men to wear sagging trousers, the new law empowers police to arrest offenders on the spot. However, police will have the discretion to issue written warnings or hand out fines there and then but repeat offenders face the prospect of prosecution and jail.

Last week, the city council voted unanimously to approve an ordinance that prohibits anyone on city property from wearing pants two inches below their natural waist. Human rights activists have labelled it a breach of freedom and an assault on individual liberties but this did not deter councillors from passing the law.

This is the second time the city council has tried to pass this law as in 2009, Councilwoman Mary Rich requested the ordinance but as of then, no one seconded her motion.

At the time, Mayor Kent Guinn said that one of his objections was that the ordinance would lead to profiling.

According to Councillor Rich, under the new law, both genders and all races will be subject to the ordinance, so there will be no profiling.

This law is enforceable on all city-owned or leased property, including sidewalks, streets, parks, sports, recreation and public transportation facilities and parking lots.

In a similar incidence, authorities in Pikeville in Kentucky have also unanimously approved an ordinance making saggy pants illegal.

Under their new law, anyone caught with their pants more than three inches below the top of the hips will be guilty of public indecency.

Contravention of Pikeville’s new law, however, only attracts a fine of $25 for the first offenders and no more than $50 for subsequent offenses. A small town that is 95% Caucasian, Pikeville only has a population of 6,295 people and 2,705 households.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole and his Rivers State counterpart, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, have said they are not losing sleep over the alleged plot by President Goodluck Jonathan to push for their impeachment.

The duo said the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party could not impeach them as the case of a former governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Murtala Nyako.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, had at a press conference on Wednesday alleged that Jonathan and the PDP were out to remove the governors of Edo, Nasarawa, Osun, Borno and Rivers states.

But Oshiomhole, through his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Kassim Afegbua, said he was popularly elected by the overwhelming majority of Edo people.

He said, “The thought of impeachment does not cross our hearts. First, what would be the rationale? Secondly, the APC has majority in the Assembly. Thirdly, the governor is on ground. Fourthly, he is performing. We are not losing sleep over that because we have capacity for decency when it comes to real issues of political engagement.”

He accused the PDP of impunity, which he said was fast eroding democratic principles in the country.

He added, “If the PDP is now engaged in a gestapo manner with a gale of impeachment here and there, and with clear-cut abuses, it is the responsibility of the media to expose such dubiety and save our democracy from collapse.”

Afegbua said that the APC would not lose elections in Edo State, adding that the governor had performed.

In Rivers State, Amaechi and his followers said they were aware of the threat of impeachment in order to force the governor back to the PDP, but added that such threat would not work.

Describing the threat to make him return to the PDP as a dull dream and a wild goose chase, the governor, who spoke through his Chief of Staff, Chief Tony Okocha, explained that the formal move by 25 members of the state House of Assembly to the APC on Wednesday had foreclosed any thought of his (Amaechi) removal as the state governor.

HUSBAND KICKS OUT WIFE FROM HIS HOME OVER HER BODY ODOUR

A housewife in the Igbodo community of Delta State, identified as Mrs Evelyn Obiomah, has been sent out of her matrimonial home over her strong body odour.

Trouble began for her, a mother of two, when her husband, a prominent farmer in the area married a second wife and began to pick constant quarrel with her. Soon after taking his new wife, the husband had threatened to make life unbearable for his first wife.

The woman was dragged before the elders in the community to settle the quarrel between she and her husband but could not reach amicable settlement.

A source in the area disclosed that the problem between the woman and her husband further degenerated when the first wife allegedly attacked the second wife.

A substance suspected to be adulterated water was said to have been poured on the first wife which later developed into serious rashes…

She was said to have treated the issue lightly only to have observed few weeks later that a pervasive offensive body odour had subsequently taken over her entire body. Now her husband has sent her parking.

WOMAN NABBED WITH DEAD 5-YEAR-OLD CHILD IN LAGOS, NIGERIA

Policemen in Lagos, yesterday, foiled attempt by a mob to lynch a middle-aged woman who was in possession of a dead child at Mile-Two, along Oshodi/Apapa expressway.

Though the woman, who gave her name as Florence, claimed that the dead child was hers, the mob said she could have kidnapped and killed the child for money ritual.

When journalists arrived the the scene yesterday, the dead child was seen lying by the side of the expressway, with Florence by his side. TwoGhanamust gobags were found by her side.

Inside the bags were beverages, detergents and assorted clothes.

Though news making the round earlier had it that the child’s eyes were plucked, butVanguarddiscovered that the eyeballs were only popped.

Information gathered revealed that the woman had been sighted in the area with the child strapped at her back for three days.

An onlooker said: “One man in a commercial bus alerted us yesterday that the child strapped at the back was motionless. This attracted some curious passengers of commercial buses that were trapped in this unending gridlock. One of the passengers went close to the woman and shook the baby.

Before you knew it, people had gathered around the woman, wanting to set her ablaze. But for the timely arrival of policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad she would have been dead by now.”

WhenVanguardapproached the woman , she said: “I am from Umo in Kwale area of Delta State. I was born in Lagos and I have three children.

Nothing is wrong with me. This child (pointing to the dead child) is my son. He is the last of my three children. I have a boy and a girl who are in the village. His name is Chidi and he is five years old.

“He has been very sick. In fact, he had fever and needed blood transfusion but I couldn’t afford the money for it. He died three days ago.

Before he died, we wanted to travel back to the village. My husband stays in Port Harcourt.”

When asked to give his husband’s telephone number she said: “The paper where I wrote his number has been destroyed by rain. I don’t have any relative in Lagos. Although she did not give any reason for wanting to abort her unborn child, Dolores said she had approached her doctor to carry out the abortion but he didn’t agree with it and refused to do it. She then resorted to doing it herself by drinking warm beer and running with the hope that she would lose the pregnancy.

“I wanted to abort but the doctor didn’t support my decision,” she wrote in her autobiography. Speaking at the launch of the autobiography in Lisbon yesterday, Dolores said that Ronaldo already knew about his past and even joked about it. ““He told me when he found out, ‘Look mum, you wanted to abort me and now I’m the one who’s pulling the purse-strings in the house,’” she said.

A 9-year-old school boy has tied the knot with his 62-year-old bride in Ximhungwe, Mpumalanga, South Africa, to the amazement of all.

The 9-year-old Saneie Masilela due to ‘family culture’, has decided to remarry his bride, Helen Shabangu, who has already had five children.

The dapper-looking baby faced ‘groom’ and his mature bride looked quite extravagant as they were kissing each other in a bid to show their love, to the amazement of all the 100 guests present at the event.

Both families have confirmed their consent to the wedding, as the formal husband of the bride and two of her children, aged 28 and 38, have made it publicly known. They are happy that the couple are helping with the family ritual, which is meant to appease the ancestors of their family.

Revealing how they had all taken up the financial responsibilities of the said wedding, the formal husband says he is unperturbed about what anyone says.

The baby groom still has the hopes of remarrying a girl within his age range in future. However, he says that he loves his present bride as that was what made him to take the bold step of marrying Helen.

The bride, who expressed her happiness over the fact that the boy picked her, told the newsmen that the boy will continue to live a normal life, as other boys of his age, and will later get married to a younger bride, within his age limits. Helen added that they were both just fulfilling family traditions.

MOSQUE LEADERS TRY TO CUT OFF MAN'S HAND IN AMERICA FOR ALLEDGED STEALING

Two men described as leaders of a Philadelphia mosque were accused of trying to cut off the hand of a suspected thief, whose wrist was sliced so deeply it required hospital treatment, police said on Friday.

The 46-year-old victim said two officials in the mosque accused him of stealing jars of money from the house of worship after morning prayers on Monday.

The officials, described in police reports as the mosque’s imam and amir, dragged the victim to the rear of the mosque, and attempted to chop off his hand with a machete, according to a police statement.

He sustained a severe laceration to his right wrist, and was transported to a nearby hospital by medics.

Officers served a search warrant on Thursday on the mosque, located in a house in the city’s Overbrook section, where they arrested Merv Mitchell, also known as Mabul Shoatz. They recovered a 2-foot-long machete from the scene.

BEYONCE AND JAY Z MIGHT BE PARTING WAYS SOON

 Reports have been doing the rounds for a while now that Beyonce and Jay Z are  planning to go their separate ways after they wrap up their 'On The Run' tour later this year. The rumours have been fueled by the fact that the couple have both had their 'IV' wedding tattoos removed and are no longer wearing their wedding rings.

 A source also tells The New York post that Bey and Jay are now working out a way to break-up without divorcing and that  'On The Run which has grossed over 100 million dollars with only 20 shows is  "a huge concert tour and they've already gotten most of the money from the promoters up front."

The source added that the tour will be the first and last for Jay Z, 44, and Beyonce, 32, after marriage counsellors failed to help them get their relationship back on track. It is believed the couple - who have a 2-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy - thought having their first child would bring them closer again but they soon started to go their separate ways.

The source explained: "For just a split moment, things got real for them and she was even talking about adding to the family. If this most recent report is accurate it would mark the end of the couple's 12 year relationship and 6 year marriage.

The news comes just two months after  surveillance footage leaked showing Beyonce's sister Solange attacking Jay Z in an elevator, moments after they left the Met Ball after-party in New York. A statement was later released, saying: "At the end of the day families have problems and we're no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same."

WHY I LEFT PDP - AMAECHI

Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has disclosed his reason for leaving the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Amaechi, who spoke on Sunday at the thanksgiving celebration of former Council Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Gregory Nwidam at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Bane noted that failure of the PDP-led Federal government to implement the United Nations Environmental Protection Agency (UNEP) report on Ogoni land was part of the reasons why he left the party.

The governor said FG lack the political will to implement the UNEP report to make the environment habitable for the people of Ogoni, including the provision of water and other infrastructural development.

“After the verification and recommendation by the Agency to the Federal Government, they have refused to release the sum of One million dollars for the clean-up and development of the area. As I am talking to you today, the Federal Government is doing nothing about the UNEP report. $1 million is about N160 billion, but the Federal Government has been spending billions in other places. But, you need to ask yourselves one question, what did Ogoni do against the federal government that they cannot release 160 billion naira to save your environment.

“That is the reason I left PDP for APC, because, our interest is not protected in PDP.  So, when they cannot give the people of Ogoni 160 billion naira, which is not even enough for their kids to travel around America and London, if they cannot give to Ogoni people, why should you vote them?” he said.

“What you should do is to punish them with your votes by voting them out in 2015. When you vote, you are not fighting for me, you are fighting for yourselves because, I have served as a Speaker for 8 years and also Governor for 8 years, what I need from God is long life.  You need to fight for yourselves and save Rivers State as well,” Amaechi said.

The governor urged the people of Khana and all Rivers people to register and identify with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to vote out the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in the 2015 general elections.

“Let me assure you that APC will win in 2015 in Rivers State. You owe me a duty to get registered with APC.  Go and register during the voters’ registration and get your voters card.  I want to thank the people of Bane community and Khana people for their support, especially the celebrant, Hon. Gregory Nwidam for his promise that the people of Khana LGA will ensure APC wins in Rivers State in 2015,” Amaechi said.

Amaechi also advised supporters of the APC in the State to resist any attempt by the PDP to use police and the military to intimidate and manipulate the 2015 elections against the will of the electorates.

“The PDP said they will bring Police and Army. Let them bring them, but, you should know that they are also human beings. On that day of the election, I will be at the front. There is nothing police will shoot that I have not inhaled before. There is no cell that they have not locked me up as a student leader. There is no amount of slapping and beating I have not passed through in those days. There is nothing new that the Federal Government has not done to me.

“So, I want to prepare you the APC for that day.  When you vote, seat down at the polling unit and let them count the votes and announce the results, so that they won’t rig us out.  Don’t vote for PDP.  For me, politics is not about my brother or my father, politics is about me and my interest. So, it is about you and your interest,” He said.

Amaechi noted that his administration has built link roads, Model Primary and Secondary Schools as well as Health Centres to improve Ogoni land and other ethnic groups in the State in contrast to the Federal Government.

“What has Federal Government done for the people of Ogoni. If I have not done anything, I have built Roads, Primary and Secondary Schools as well as Health Centres in Ogoni land.  There are two areas I have focused since I became governor, Ogoni and Etche Local Government areas.  I have also taken development to other parts of the State.  In Ogoni, I started with rural road construction including agricultural investment to employ Ogoni people.

“So, when former Senator Lee Maebe said, are Ogoni people monkeys? I asked him to go back to school.  This is because, the reason for establishing that farm in Tai LGA, even after we paid the owners of the land, was to create employment opportunities for the Ogoni people who work and get their daily living from that source. That farm is 2,000 hectares of land while the one we got from Etche was 5,000 hectares of land. This is a way of improving the living standard of the people in these areas. And, until I leave office, I will continue to drive development in the state.”

The governor said soon, he will address the people of the State on the on recent state of Federal allocations to the State.

“I will address the State in the next one week or more to tell them about the consistent shortfall of our allocations from the Federal Government. Even though the Federal Government said it is oil theft. We have lost almost half of our revenue. We don’t have enough money to run our government, and we need funds to be able to govern the state. But, let me assure you that we will continue to raise money to complete our projects,” Amaechi said.

FRAUDSTERS IMPERSONATE NIGERIA'S SOKOTO STATE GOVERNOR ON SOCIA MEDIA

Internet fraudsters have opened an account in the name of Sokoto State Governor, Al­haji Aliyu Wamakko, on facebook, one of his aides confirmed in Sokoto.

The aide, Malam Abuba­kar Dangusau, special as­sistant on press affairs to the governor, advised members of the public to beware of such fraudsters.

He noted that such act was meant to defraud unsuspect­ing members of the public.

Dangusau urged that any message claiming to have come from such facebook account should be disre­garded.

“They are aimed at short-changing unsuspect­ing members of the public. Relevant security agencies have been informed of this fraudulent facebook account operators, and the secu­rity agencies are leaving no stone unturned to apprehend the suspected  fraudsters,” he said

FIFA EXTENDS DEADLINE ON NIGERIA

World’s governing body, FIFA, has extended the deadline date for Nigeria to respond to the ban imposed on the NFF to July 17. The extension was granted due to the industrial action embarked on by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria in Nigeria.

FIFA, in its magnanimity, extended the window to give the NFF enough time to withdraw the court case that was instituted by Ruth Baribote, owner of Nembe FC, and also reinstate the Aminu Maigari-led Nigeria Football Federation board or risk an outright ban.

The suspension, according to FIFA, will be lifted as soon as the court action is withdrawn and the properly elected NFF Executive Committee, the NFF General Assembly and the NFF administration are able to work without government’s interference.

Last week, FIFA’s Emergency Committee suspended the Nigeria Football Federation with immediate effect on account of government’s alleged interference

Argentina icon Diego Maradona feels Lionel Messi did not deserve to win the Golden Ball following his performances at the World Cup.

The Barcelona star beat the likes of Thomas Muller, Arjen Robben and James Rodriguez to the prestigious individual award after scoring four goals in seven performances at this summer’s tournament and guiding his team to the final, yet Maradona feels the 27-year-old only won it for commercial reasons.

“I would give him heaven if possible,” Maradona said during his show on Telesur. “But it’s not right when someone wins something that he shouldn’t have won just because of some marketing plan.”

Maradona then went on to voice his disappointment with Argentina’s 1-0 defeat in Sunday’s final against Germany following Mario Gotze’s goal in extra time.

“I feel sorry for my country. Mario Gotze’s goal really hurt. There’s a huge sadness in my heart that we lost the final,” he said. “All things put together, I think Argentina deserved at least penalties. That Germany won was the result of a misunderstanding in the Argentine defense.”

PHCN CABLES THEFT: 4 REMANDED IN PRISON CUSTODY

A Federal High Court sitting in Enugu has remanded four accused persons including a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward chairman, in prison custody for allegedly tampering with electric cables, property of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

The defendants, Emmanuel Okolo, Ude Ifeanyi, Afam Ude and Ifeanyi Okeke, who pleaded not guilty to the charges against them,  failed to obtain bail.

They were charged with, “tampering with electric cables, property of PHCN contrary to Section 19(6) and punishable under Section 9 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act; CAP M17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.”

The charge further read: “That you, Emmanuel Okolo and three others about the 13th day of November, 2013 at about 15:20 hours at Obinofia community in Ezzeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State unlawfully disconnected, removed, tampered or meddled with low-tension  cable wires from transformer of the PHCN.

“That you Emmanuel Okolo and three others did steal four low tension cables valued at N700, 000 property of Power Holding Company of Nigeria Plc, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 9 Miscellaneous Offences Act; CAP M17.”

An oral application for bail by the defense counsel, G.C Gboko, could not be entertained by the court following an objection by the prosecutor that such application should have been put down in writing and properly filed.

The trial judge, D. V Agishi, upheld the objection that the defendants were served arraignment notice in good time and were in a position to do the needful.

She, therefore, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter to November 6, 2014.

FG FREEZES NFF’S ACCOUNTS

The crisis that is currently rocking the country’s football is far from being over, as the Federal Government has ordered for the closure of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), bank accounts. This latest development came few days after the Federal Government denied the football house their July, monthly allocation, which amounted to N253 million.

However, the men in the Glass House had been asked to privately source for their mean of livelihood with their three bank accounts frozen.

An impeccable source close to the Glass House hinted that the Ministry of Sports acted to avoid further accusation of government interference in the administration of the round leather game in the country.

“There is a general saying which states that you put your money where your mouth is. So, it is believed that this is the simple thing that the government has done.

“FIFA has asked the Nigerian government to stay clear of football matters and that has to be done in all areas, which includes funding,” the source posited.

Last week, the World football governing body, FIFA, made good its threat to suspend Nigeria, accusing the government of interfering in football administration and had also called for the reinstatement of the sacked Alhaji Aminu Maigari-led NFF board or risk heavy sanctions.

TRADER SLUMPS AS POLICE TEAR-GAS IN OWERRI MARKET NIGERIA

There was pandemonium yesterday as both passers-by and traders ran helter-skelter, as police men fired several canisters of tear gas into the air at the Owerri Main Market popularly called Eke Onuwa located on the popular Douglas Road, during which an asthmatic patient, Chukwukere Daniel and a six-year-old boy almost lost their lives.

According to eye witnesses at the scene, the policemen were said to be attached to the task force on street trading and illegal motor park.

They were said to have shot tear gas canisters into the air in the midst of a crowd that gathered to watch a promotional display by a beverage company, but  Daniel and the six-year-old boy were caught in the incident.

The ensuing pandemonium was said to have caused a stampede which injured scores of people at the market, and also afforded some hoodlums an  opportunity to loot property of the traders, who fled the scene.

Daniel, while narrating his experience after regaining consciousness  said: “ I was returning from work and heard a loud sound at

Douglas Road , I started running but slumped later as I was told by people who revived me.”

He further disclosed that it took good Samaritans who came to his rescue to get an inhaler after losing his during the  stampede.

The six-year-old, who was being dragged by his mother fainted due to the effect of the tear gas and was also said to have been revived few hours later.

When contacted, the Imo State Police  Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem said the presence of the police at the scene was to avert security breach as well as ensure free flow of traffic

40-YEAR-OLD MAN JAILED FOR DEFILING 9-YEAR-OLD GIRL

A 40-year-old man, Isah Makeri has been sentenced to a four-year jail term without an option of fine by a Kontagora High Court for raping a nine-year-old girl

In the case which lasted about six months, Resident Counsel, Abubakar Suleiman, tendered exhibits and were all upheld by the presiding judge, Justice Yusuf Tanko Usman.

Before pronouncing his judgment on the convict, the judge had asked him whether he had a plea to mitigate the sentence but instead he pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of unlawful intercourse with the teenager and asked for pardon.

Justice Usman, therefore, convicted him under Section 283 of the Penal Code.

SEX WORKER GIVES BIRTH TO BABY GIRL, SELLS HER FOR N20,000

A commercial sex worker in Bayelsa State Nigeria has sold a baby girl she just gave birth to for N20,000 at the Ovom suburb of Yenagoa, the state’s capital city.

The day-old child was sold to a family in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Vanguard reports, citing police sources.

It was learnt that the commercial sex worker operates around the popular red light district of Ovom along the D.S.P. Alamieyeseigha area, in the state capital.

Bayelsa State Police Command spokesperson, Mr. Alex Akhigbe confirmed the incident, saying investigation into the incident traced the family involved in the baby sale to Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

“Though the details of the investigation are sketchy, the special unit of the police is on its way to effect the recovery of the baby and arrest the family that bought the child,” Akhigbe said.

3-YEAR-OLD GIRL WAKES UP AT HER OWN FUNERAL

It was a happy funeral.

A 3-year-old girl who was previously pronounced medically dead awoke at her funeral in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, in the Philippines on Sunday.

Aurora Police Senior Inspector Heidil Teelan confirmed the incident to the The Philippine Star.

The girl, whose name has not been released, apparently suffered through several days of high fever before she was brought to a local medical clinic where a physician pronounced her dead.

Then, at the funeral, an attendee removed the “cover of the coffin to arrange the supposed remains saw the head of the girl move,” according to the paper.

If you think you’ve read this story before, you have not. But people waking up at their funerals does occasionally happen.

WOMAN HAD SEX WITH FRIEND'S 12-YEAR-OLD SON; SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS JAIL TIME

A 36-year-old Florida woman has been sentenced to prison after admitting she had sex with her friend’s 12-year-old son.

Joy McCall, who has children the same age as the victim, was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison, with 134 days credit for time served, according to the Ocala Star Banner. She pleaded guilty to two counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a child.

The Marion Oaks woman was arrested in February after the victim told a friend at church that he’d been having sex his mother’s friend. The boy’s confidant told his mother, who contacted the victim’s mother.

The victim’s mother checked her son’s text messages and found a conversation of a sexual nature between the boy and McCall, who is three times his age. The messages culminated in McCall sending the victim a photo of herself in her underwear, according to WCJB.

She contacted the Ocala Police Department, who launched an investigation.

According to police, the woman also contacted the victim several times on Facebook, and made plans to have him meet her at a mall.

Police interviewed the victim and determined that he and McCall had sex in her car in a mall parking lot, and then again on two different occasions in a secluded wooded area in Ocala.

According to the Ocala Post, two encounters took place in January and one in February.

In the first incident, on January 13, police said the boy got a ride with his older brother to the mall, then said he had to use the restroom and met the woman at her car, where they had sex. In the subsequent incidents, McCall picked the boy up after he told his parents he was going on a bike ride.

People who knew McCall told the Ocala Post that she always seemed a little unstable and “weird.”

TEACHER DOCKED FOR HOARDING 400 SNAKES IN HIS HOUSE

A California man who improperly kept more than 400 snakes in his Santa Ana home pleaded guilty to animal abuse charges last week.

William Frederick Buchman was sentenced to three years formal probation and 100 hours of community service on July 10, according to KTLA. A judge also ordered him to attend a 16-week animal neglect prevention program, and banned Buchman from owning or caring for animals for five years.

He will also pay $17,000 as restitution for veterinary expenses and care for the hundreds of ball pythons that were discovered in his home in January.

Buchman, who is an elementary school teacher, was arrested after a neighbor called authorities to complain about the foul odor coming from the man’s house.

Responders arrived to find more than 400 ball pythons stored in the house. Police said approximately 280 of the reptiles were dead or dying, and others had gotten out of their containers.

“Some [were] in boxes, some in crates and some crawling around,” Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna told KABC following Buchman’s arrest. The stench was described as “god-awful.”

“House of Horrors: That’s the best way to describe it,” Sondra Berg, supervisor for the Santa Ana Police Department’s Animal Services Division, said after Buchman’s arrest.

In a statement obtained by KNBC, Buchman’s attorney explained that the hoarding came about due to his client’s depression.

“Mr. Buchman suffered a severe depression after the long terminal illness and death of his mother,” his attorney, Paul Meyer, said in a statement. “The depression paralyzed him and he tragically neglected the reptiles, which had been a family hobby.”

JONATHAN’S RE-ELECTION PORTENDS DANGER – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that re-electing President Goodluck Jonathan will constitute danger to the country, while blaming the country’s woes on the president.

In a statement issued in Osogbo yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said under President Jonathan’s watch, the country had been thrown into unprecedented crisis.

The party also accused Jonathan of using national institutions, like the police and the army, to intimidate and harass ordinary citizens and opposition supporters.

The APC stated: “As we write, there are contrived crises in Rivers and Edo, where a handful of lawmakers, with the backing of higher authorities, have been terrorising the Houses of Assembly in their states and defying court orders at will, with the ultimate prize for the renegades being the states’ chief executives; and there is crisis in Adamawa, where an impeachment plot has been undoubtedly instigated and hatched by higher authorities, despite tepid denials, and soldiers have been deployed to cage very high state officials.

“In Ekiti, several billions of naira was allegedly scooped from a massive political war chest to subvert democracy, induce voters and upturn all known political theories to such an extent that all that anyone seeking to be elected now has to do is to dole out stolen public funds to a people already rendered comatose and impoverished by runaway corruption, glaring incompetence and sheer cluelessness that are the hallmarks of the Jonathan administration.”

  

The party said the only thing that interests President Jonathan was his re-election, saying: “While he pursues that goal with vigour, the over 200 missing girls in Borno State can stay where they are being kept by their abductors for over three months now; and the daily carnage in the North-East as well as Kaduna, Nasarawa and Benue can continue, even though over 12,000 people have been killed and 8,000 maimed. Once the president continues to play his dangerous politics of re-election, which involves using state resources and national institutions to muscle and muzzle the opposition; the press and ordinary citizens, all is well in the eyes of his purposeless party.”

BOKO HARAM BLOWS UP MADAFUMA BRIDGE

Apparently jolted by the on-going military operations against its dreaded bases, the Boko Haram sect has blown up the popular Madafuma bridge, linking 185km Biu- Damboa-Maid­uguri federal road.

Some gunmen, suspected to be members of Boko Haram had, at the weekend, planted Im­provised Explosive Devices (IEDs) under the bridge and blew it up, damaging some re­markable portion of the bridge, with motorists and passengers stranded

Hundreds of motorists and passengers had been killed on the road, while many others had been kidnapped in the last two years, making the road a deathtrap for travellers.

The notoriety of the road had forced many motorists and people of Biu, Garkida, Numan, Shani, Tarabato to abandon it for the alterna­tive route linking the state to Gombe State.

The bombing of the bridge, according to a witness, Mal­lam Musa Yakubu, took place last Saturday around 2a.m. when residents of the area were already asleep.

“We heard a bang on Satur­day and on Sunday morning when we gathered in Mada­fuma village to go round our surroundings early in the morning, we found out that the bridge linking us with Biu Lo­cal Government Area and MA Dara Girau, had been blown up; all motorists heading to Maiduguri from Biu, espe­cially long vehicles had no option than to make U-turn to Gombe. Unfortunately, small vehicles had to manage the re­maining portion which had not been affected in the blast, but it is very risky,” Yakubu stated.

Trucks loaded with tubers of yam from Taraba and Benue states, according to residents of Biu had to return to Biu on Sunday and took another road through Gombe-Potiskum- Damaturu-Maiduguri road, which they described as a long and hectic journey
