NURSE SUSPENDED FOR WATCHING GULF

A nurse at York Hospital who was caught watching golf on a work computer has been suspended for 12 months for misconduct.
Nigel Steel, a registered nurse, was at York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust between 2005 and February 2013
The Nursing and Midwifery Council heard he had used a trust computer to watch a tournament at work on 21 July 2012.
Mr Steel, who faced several charges, also told a patient to defecate on to an underwear pad, a tribunal was told.
'Breached fundamental principles'
He was also said to have failed to record his interactions with that patient and to have failed to have recorded any details of care given to two other patients.
The panel heard evidence Mr Steel had "openly admitted" using the computer to watch the tournament online at work
If found he had "breached fundamental principles and standards" of the Nursing and Midwifery Council codes.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council said the suspension was "appropriate and proportionate" and all the facts were provided in the case.
It said the suspension would cause hardship for Mr Steel but it was in the public interest and was necessary to protect patients.
Mr Steel though, did not attend the hearing in London.
