Frustration continued as current World Champions, Spain were unable to produce a goal against their Group B rivals Chile. The match ended in a 0-2 win for Chile while Spain and Australia are the first teams to exit the World Cup 2014. The first goal came in the 20th minute by Eduardo Vargas, and the second came in the 43rd minute, a free kick by Alexis Sanchez punched out by Casilas and the rebound by Aranguiz set Chile two goals ahead of Spain before the half time whistle. Chile defended their lead till the end of 90 minutes and have qualified for the next round.
